Homegrown: GCSO Develops its own Courses!
Tuesday, October 09, 2012

Global Christian School online provides online courses to families around the world. As part of their quest to provide quality online courses, the GCSO team has written and designed several courses. These homegrown courses represent the dual focus of quality academics and Biblical discipleship for which GCSO is known.

The Life of Christ was the the first course that GCSO developed. A study of the life and teachings of Jesus as described in the gospels, the Life of Christ challenges students to learn how Christ successfully struggled against evil and to consider how our lives can reflect His holiness.

SCS Bible teacher Peter Ward wrote the Life of Christ course; “My desire for this course is that my students will understand the historical context and significance of Jesus’ life and reflect on how they will apply his challenging teachings to their daily life.”

Affiliate schools are Christian schools that parter with GCSO to enlarge their course catalog by providing online classes for their students. The schools have access to GCSO courses, teachers, and training. Students that take GCSO courses at an affiliate school do not have to pay the application or enrollment fees. More information on our affiliate school program can be found here.

New Study on the Effectiveness of Online Learning
Monday, July 30, 2012

This week US News and World Reports reported that a new study indicates that online learning is an effective learning method for students.

"The report, "Interactive Learning Online at Public Universities: Evidence from Randomized Trials," notes that students who utilize interactive online learning—or hybrid learning—produce equivalent, or better, results than students participating in face-to-face education."

There is a growing body of research to support the effectiveness of online learning!

GCSO Helps Families Around the Globe!
Thursday, March 01, 2012

This year students from around the globe are taking courses with Global Christian School Online. Each family represents a unique situation for which online learning is a great option.

The Robertson family logs on to their GCSO courses each day from the far reaches of Siberia, Russia. As missionaries with International Gospel Outreach, the Robertsons have lived in various parts of Russia for the past eight years and do not have access to quality education. Furthermore, because of postal challenges, sending and receiving curriculum is impossible.

The Nogueira family lives in Brazil. Their 9th grade daughter speaks three languages and has a published book. It is her desire to attend university in the United States. To prepare her for that goal, the Nogueira family enrolled their daughter into GCSO to improve her English and to be challenged academically.

The Davenport family lives in Farmington Hills. They have home schooled their children with great success, but wanted their daughter to begin learning a second language. GCSO provided an opportunity for them to continue home schooling while providing instruction in a challenging subject.

The Peterson family lives in the Metro Detroit area. Their daughter’s school only extended through the 8th grade. GCSO provided an opportunity for the Peterson’s to provide quality Christian education for their daughter at an affordable price.

Each of these situations illustrate how online learning can provide a flexible alternative to families with unique circumstances.
Why Online Learning?
Wednesday, February 01, 2012

While there are many reasons that families choose online education, the flexibility and individuality of online programs are two of its greatest benefits. School takes place anytime, anywhere and is tailored to the needs of each student.

Online learning is the fastest growing form of education in the world. At the turn of the millennium, it is estimated that 45,000 K-12 students received training online. In 2008 the number of K-12 students enrolled on online classes grew to over 1 million. Some educational leaders are predicting that within the next 20 years over 50% of all K-12 courses will be delivered via online classes.

Online courses align with the flexibility and individual learning needs of today's students. They can be used to add advanced courses and provide independent assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of homeschool students.

In the past, correspondence and online courses have been viewed as inferior to the traditional educational model. Many viewed them as an easy way to a degree. Several "diploma factories" encouraged this perception. As technology has improved, so has the rigor and social aspect of online classes.

To meet the growing demand for customizable and flexible educational solutions, Southfield Christian School (SCS) has launched Global Christian School Online. This new division of SCS will provide engaging, high quality online courses delivered from a Biblical worldview that will develop students into critical thinkers and world changers.
